Debate Camp

ONLINE MODEL UN CAMP

1 WEEK SESSION - 9:00am to 12:00 noon - AUGUST 10 - 14

YES! An extension of our popular online camps. NEW program option suitable to all levels.  Join us each morning during one week in August!

PROGRAM
OVERVIEW

MODEL UNITED NATIONS: Daily simulations, paired with skills workshops and seminars on international politics. Campers learn diplomacy, collaboration, and public speaking. All levels of experience are welcome!

• respond to global issues                                                                   • ask the right questions

• optimize your time in an unmoderated caucus                                 • collaborate together to build solutions

• learn to process information quickly

INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS:  Online workshops are designed in a fun, interactive way. Participants develop communication and collaborations skills via opportunities to work together, share thinking and debate in a large group.

TEAMWORK:  Online participants co-develop cases, debate as a team and receive feedback together; often as a side - pointing out strengths of argumentation and delivery.

SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT:  Our online program is a supportive place, with lots of encouragement available for those who are trying new things.  Participants are coached to honour what is being said by their opponents and welcome the efforts of others, even in competition.

ABILITY LEVELS: All online groups and speakers opposite are grouped at an experience level that ensures the right level of challenge

Online level groups are similar to all Debate Camps and open to adjustment post-registration to ensure program comfort and fit.  Campers enrolling in multiple camps are welcome to try higher levels.

PROGRAM
DETAILS

MUN SKILLS WORKSHOP

In this workshop, instructors teach the core skills of MUN: how to stand out in moderated caucus, how to optimize your time in unmoderated caucus, and how the basic committees work. This fundamental theory is valuable to MUN beginners as well as our expert campers, and students will have many opportunities to apply the strategies they learn in MUN simulations throughout the camp.

CRISIS COMMITTEE

A more fast-paced committee, students who choose this option will engage in a crisis simulation every day where they must respond to imminent global issues. Students will be taught how to respond to various crises, such as military threats and natural disasters. They will learn how to quickly process information, ask the right questions, and work together to respond to global issues.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

General assemblies typically focus on broader issues through extended debate. Less focus is placed on implementing actions quickly, but rather achieving effective, long-term resolutions. Campers tackle some of our most challenging global issues, such as poverty, education, and healthcare. General assembly is where students can put their minds together to consider big issues and collaborate to build solutions.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS

A core part of MUN is closely reflecting your delegation’s interests. How might Italy respond to this situation? What would Pakistan prioritize when discussing this issue? Students will learn how to research a nation’s foreign policy and be introduced to the broad foreign policies of the world through lessons on each continent.
